Hey Ariana, look what I found! Usually I get caught in the rain, but today I was caught in the SNOW. I had to walk from my class to the back to the parking lot. I was almost an ice cube when I finally got there. Last night I had to work on a timeline for my business practices class and only got 4 hours of sleep, I just woke up from a nap and now I’m feeling good. Our school got some new furniture this summer! I know this is a really bad picture…I have a hard time using Photobooth in public. I always think someone is looking at me or thinking I am crazy for taking a snapshot of the side of the room/or of my face, by myself. I need to get over that. I found out that I have a class with Tj this term..good thing it’s boring so I won’t feel terrible about socializing. I finished my homework before class was over. I’m going to have a lot of free time on these days.

I had a nice time with my mom last night. I’m excited to be here for most of the summer. Working, swimming, art, music. I’m going to be just as busy with my time off but it will be much more rewarding, I think.  I’m getting very tired of working myself to death and not getting paid for it. Actually, in reality, I’m paying THEM to be worked to death. School is an interesting place.  I made a logo for my group project this week and everyone liked it except for the one group member. He is graduating after this term. I only mention that because he always talks down to everyone since we haven’t taken the same classes as him.  “I don’t know, I just like to design my own stuff. I just don’t want to wait around for files and work when I can just do what I want by myself. NOT TO TAKE AWAY FROM ANYTHING YOU’RE DOING.” (pointing at what I was working on for less than 10 minutes) It really bothers me that someone can be so short-sighted. So, since I haven’t been in all the classes you have, that automatically makes me a worse designer? No. Just because you have the money to buy fonts and textures doesn’t make you better than anyone. And even if you were, the least you could do is help your fellow classmates, instead of acting like we are all in competition with each other. Plus, we are in a group together. A GROUP. That means we have to work together to accomplish a goal. Not walk away frustrated and mumbling because you think we are all too stupid to understand what you’re saying.  YOU ARE AT A COMMUNITY COLLEGE.  And you are also a dick. so shut your mouth.

I think being a designer would be pointless if every designer had an invisible style, I think it’s important to be versatile, but invisible? How would any designer be famous if that was true? You’re asking me to suppress my own style and identity. I suppose the point could be made that that graphic design is suppressing identity already, but I don’t agree with that at all (and that’s another debate for another time) I’m going to listen to my clients when I design for them, but they are choosing me because of my past projects and abilities, not because onlookers can’t tell if I’m a man or a woman by looking at my work. Obviously, every project I work on isn’t going to be pink and cute, or camo and guns. I think my teacher is giving us absolutely no credit if he thinks that’s what we are going to do when we get into the working world. I almost feel like that mindset would damage my design style. “is this too girly? Is this too manly?” no. It just is what it is, I listen to the client, we work it out, and they leave happy. Every project is different. and the fact that he would just assume we don’t know that is insulting.

Apparently they have an official movie font, no one decided to mention that to me until today. So that takes care of that problem. I also have some sizing issues to work out, but it’s all coming together pretty smoothly.
